Faculty and students work with a number of local initiatives, including, for instance UBC’s Urban Ethnographic Field School (formerly IVEFS), the BC Neighbourhood House Association, and the City of Vancouver’s CityStudio project. Both research projects and class projects draw upon our wealth of local connections at the same time as they attempt to give back to the community.
Sociology hosts a Community Food Garden. The ANSO Gardens are located just east of the building entrance, and offer 18 planter plots for the use of all building occupants. The Gardens are made possible by a grant from the UBC HR Healthy Workplace Initiative Program and a grant from the Sustainability Office Xerox fund.
